The Texas Education Agency defines a gifted/talented student as, a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possesses and unusual capacity for leadership, or excels in a specific academic field.

Sonora ISD is beginning the referral process for Gifted/Talented (G/T) services for the 2025-2026 school year. Sonora ISD has transitioned to a fall referral window as recommended by the Region XV GT specialist is order to avoid an overload of testing days for students during the spring STAAR preparation and testing season. Anyone wishing to refer a student attending Sonora schools in 1^st through 12^th grade can use the link provided to complete the online referral form or pick up a referral form from your child’s campus beginning October 7^th. The forms must be completed and submitted by October 28^th. Students now in Kindergarten will be referred in the spring semester for testing.
